Exfoliation - The Anti Ageing Byword
Five years ago, we were still fervently polishing off dull surface cells with cleansing grains, today continual, passive exfoliation with AHA-containing products makes manual sloughing seem both primitive
and unnecessary. Yet "gumption" pastes are still in evidence on beauty shelves. So, do we need both?
A few beauty experts suggest manual exfoliation a couple of times a week, preferably in the morning, helps remove cells that an AHA cream has previously loosened. However, dermatologists warn that
as AHAs can sensitize, manual scrubbing may cause skin to become irritated.
The message seems to
be don't do both. Either massage lightly, avoiding the eye zone, with a manual exfolialor - smooth polymer or plastic grains are gentler than scratchy nut kernel chips. Or let your AHA cream do the job for
you. And if you choose manual exfoliation dermatologists warn against using "pan scourer' cleansing pads, which can scratch the skin surface.
