How to Apply FoundationFoundations, complexion primers and concealers all help perfect your skin's tone and texture. Your base is the most crucial stage of your make-up. It is the bedrock for the rest of your look. Make-up simply does not sit smoothly on an uneven skin tone. A basic team of complexion primers helps subsequent colours to glide on and stay true. Get your priming right and your skin will look smoother, fresher and younger. How to Apply FoundationWait 10 minutes for moisturizer to settle before applying foundation. Stroke on colour primer, sponge-blending it evenly into your cheeks fore head, chin and nose, until there are no patches. Dab foundation on the cheeks, chin and forehead. Use a dry latex, or slightly damp natural sponge to smooth over the face, including nose and eyelids. Work into inner eye crevices and around nostrils. Blend well. Finish by sweeping inward from the hairline and jawline to rub out tidemarks. Stroke tiny amounts of concealer under the eyes, along deep lines and over spots. Blend with a flat brush, or dab lightly with fingertips - don't rub. Look up to blend out creases under the eyes and puff out your cheeks to smooth laughter lines. Press over loose powder to set, then dust off the excess. Use a puff to press powder lightly over the entire face, then buff into the foundation with a complexion brush for a natural demi-matt finish. The ideal base looks so natural it's almost invisible. Very sheer bases only work for naturally smooth skins. Heavy-coverage formulas have a high powder quota, giving them an opaque texture and a matt finish, which can look a little "cakey". Go lightly with powder-cream foundations, which may be difficult to blend. Oily skins suit oil-free bases. Rich, moisture-cream formulas maintain the satin finish on dry skins that "drink in" bases. Best all-rounder are the newest, light fluid, medium-cover polymer and silicone formulas that glide on evenly and "cling" to the skin's surface longer. Those containing light-reflecting titanium particles give the skin an extra dewy finish. FOUNDATION PRIMERS AND HIGHLIGHTERS - RADIANT SOLUTIONS TO DULL SKINTinted primers or colour washes even out the complexion before applying foundation. Green
primer calms a ruddy complexion Use sparingly and centralize colour on the cheeks, chin, nose and forehead. Titanium micro particles have revolutionized bases to "lift' shadows, balancing a dull complexion with a softer finish. Highlighters have a high titanium quota. Use them sparingly to enhance natural "highs" such as cheeks, browbones and lip contours. Don't attempt to conceal spots with them. They accentuate bumpy surfaces. SMOOTH FOUNDATION APPLICATORS - TOOLS FOR SUCCESSSponges spread foundation more evenly and give a lighter finish than fingers. They work bases well into crevices and make a little foundation go a long way. Latex sponges are especially efficient at rubbing out "tidemarks" from around the jawline. Use a firm, flat eyeshadow sized brush to blend concealer with your foundation. A flat velour puff is best for pressing loose powder into foundation. Use a flat complexion puff to whisk off any floury excess that could dull the skin finish. |
