How to Apply Eyeshadow | Applying Eyeshadow

As you grow older it is likely to be your eyes and delicate surrounding area that give the game away first with a display of crow's feet, bags, droopy lids, crinkles and wrinkles. The make-up priority here then, is gently to maximize your eyes best expression without accentuating their less attractive facets.

How to Apply Eyeshadow

With a sponge-tipped applicator, pick up a little powder shadow and stroke inward over the lids. For the most wide-awake look, the depth of colour should be darkest at the outer corners of the eyes - the inner eye corners should be almost bare. Blend with a brush.

Shading and highlighting used correctly, add contour and intensity to the eyes . Pressed powders are easy to apply, while creams give you a silky long lasting color and a lustrous look. The best way to apply  eyeshadow is to raise your chin and  then look down into a mirror. Apply the  eyeshadow either with the aid of a brush or a foam-tipped applicator.

Step 1.
Cover the whole eye area with a specially formulated eye foundation,  working from the top lash to the eyebrow.

Step 2.
With a large eyeshadow brush, apply the neutral colored base eyeshadow all over the eye area, working from the eyelashes to the eyebrow and  blending out very slightly at the corner.

Step 3.
With a medium sized brush, apply the main color eyeshadow to the eyelid up to the socket line. Start from the inside corner and work outward.

Step 4.
Use a small, more pointed eyeshadow brush to run the slightly darker shade of the main color in a thin line along the socket line, working from the inside corner outward.

Step 5.
For a dramatic effect, leave the line along the socket, for a softer look blend it in well using the large brush or a cotton ball.

Step 6.
Using a small brush apply the darker color in a line underneath the bottom lashes, starting about halfway along the eye and working to the outer corner.

Step 7.
Run the small brush against the back of your hand to remove color. Then use it to apply the lighter, pearlier shade just under the brow area. Be careful not to apply any color to the eyebrows.

Forget high-pearl and frosty finishes, especially on dark skins. Matt finishes arc kinder to older skins and easier to blend. Which texture should you choose? Creams tend to run into creases. Powder-creams are long lasting but tend to dry so fast on the lids, you barely have a chance to blend them evenly. Powder eye shadows are by far the safest bet as you can van their intensity by applying them dry or damp, directly over powdered lids, or you can mix them on the back of your hand with a spot of foundation and then apply.
